The Fort Gordon Wounded Warriors received an unexpected morale boost Jan. 20. Members of the U. S. Military Vets Motorcycle Club of Augusta presented a $700 check to Stacia Blevins of Project Lifting Spirits in the dayroom of the Wounded Warrior Transition Battalion on post.

The money will be used by Project Lifting Spirits for the needs of our Wounded Warriors. “Our mission is to provide ongoing support, gifts of encouragement to our brave wounded servicemembers both home and abroad,” said Stacie Blevins, one of the founding members of Project Lifting Spirits.

Since 2007, Project Lifting Spirits has been providing blankets, games, books and much more to our wounded service members at the Charlie Norwood Veterans Administration Medical Center in downtown Augusta and the Army’s Warrior in Transition Battalion located at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center.

“We have purchased and distributed Girl Scouts cookies, organized greeting card signings with local elementary schools for the Veteran’s Day Augusta GreenJackets game,” said Blevins. “ We have also created and delivered cards, posters, bookmarks, and drawings from elementary schools and daycare facilities in Columbia County and Springfield, Tenn. These items are provided to the service member as small tokens of appreciation to let them know that they serve a grateful nation.

“ Our goal is to provide these cards and gifts to our local wounded troops and goody boxes to our deployed wounded troops on a regular basis throughout the year,” said Blevins.

The U.S. Military Vets MC in Augusta has joined forces with Project Lifting Sprits on several occasions including Aug. 5, 2010 when they worked together at the Augusta GreenJackets concession stands to raise $485.20 to benefit our wounded servicemembers.

The U. S. Military Vets MC, which was established in 1987, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is a non-profit national organization.

Its members strive to provide a club for qualified military veterans to offer brotherhood and an opportunity to establish relationships with other military veterans who have served in the defense of the United States.

Its members work to improve the image of military veterans and bikers to the general public and it establishes and supports a strong sense of pride in having served in the active military service of the United States of America.

The Augusta Chapter of the U.S. Military Vets MC officially received its charter July 2006.
